Drawing Near To GodHebrews 10:22“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”Have you ever thought, how close to God can I get? Or, I could ask, how close to God do you want to get?Does God draw a line of limitation on how close we can come to Him?I feel this is the true meaning of consecration unto the LORD.The blind hymn writer Fanny Crosby wrote (1875) about the consecration of our heart and life in the hymn, “Draw Me Nearer”.Think about the words;“I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,And it told Thy love to me;But I long to rise in the arms of faith,And be closer drawn to Thee.”And,“Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,By the pow’r of grace divine;Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,And my will be lost in Thine.”Note that she wrote the hymn in first person. It is as when one sings this hymn they are to do so by singing it to the face of God!The last two stanzas are“Oh, the pure delight of a single hour,That before Thy throne I spend,When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend!…There are depths of love that I cannot know, Till I cross the narrow sea; There are heights of joy that I may not reach. Till I rest in peace with Thee.”Oh, that our hearts were in constant love and devotion to God that we might ever draw the closer unto Him!Yes, “Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, To the cross where Thou hast died;Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,To Thy precious, bleeding side.”
