Jesus Loved Him, But Did He Love Jesus?Mark 10:21 “Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.”The man Jesus is conversing with in Mark 10:17-22 was a wealthy, religious man. Mark 10:22 says he had great possessions and in verse 20 he admits to Jesus that he has been careful from his youth to keep some of the commandments. Verse 17 tells us he came running to Jesus and kneeled before him. His excitement and adoration of Jesus may have been commendable but he still lacked “one thing” (v. 21). The one thing he lacked was loving Jesus first and only. He could not love God and mammon and serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:24). Our verse says, “Jesus beholding him loved him”. Sadly the man loved his possessions more than he loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus definitely loved him, but he did not love Jesus first and only.“All to Jesus I surrender, all to Him I freely give.I will ever love and trust Him.In His presence daily live.”
