Hearing God’s CorrectionProverbs 15:31-32“The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.”The word “reproof” means rebuke, correction, reproof, punishment, chastisement. In these verses we find two references to hearing the reproof of God. I believe there are many ways in which God can speak reproof to a person. The question we must ask is not how He is speaking that reproof, but are we listening when He does?Visiting a person who had a near fatal accident, he said to me, “I believe God is trying to tell me something.” This man felt as though God was speaking words of correction to him through his accident. It is a wise person and shows understanding when one not only hears the Lord’s words of rebuke, but makes the necessary changes in his or her life that shows they are listening. To despise or reject His reproof is proof positive that one is also despising or rejecting the life and purpose that God gave them here on earth.Ecclesiastes 12:13-14“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
