Haters Of New Testament Christianity
Have you noticed that when a NT Christian comes out and states his or her stand on any issue of our day that an attack on that person’s character ensues?
Not long ago I read of a public school coach who lost his job for praying with his team after a game. All he did was meet at centerfield with those on his team that wanted to pray. If the Christian is someone who is well known; like a sports star, actor or actress, politician, etc., and comes out taking a biblical stance against any issue the world is for, then the haters call for a cancel upon their life, their dismissal, their apology (sometimes that’s not enough), or a retraction of their stand.
In such times, NT Christians must remember the words of our Lord.
John 7:7 -- “The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.”
John 15:18-19 -- “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”
We are warned, if they hate Christ then they will hate us also. May we be careful that we are not hated for disposition. I think the advice Jesus gave the disciples in Matthew 10:16 fits well here;
“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”
