23 years and I have not forgotten! It still hurts.
He Calls For Righteousness

Our hopes and dreams, like towers, gleamed
Bright-shining to the sky.
Then we awoke, our dreams in smoke,
And had to wonder why.
A world insane, city aflame,
Hearts rent and torn asunder--
In disbelief we shared our grief,
And stared in dumbstruck wonder.
Like smoking hell the towers fell
And lives were crushed like dust,
Can we sustain amidst the pain?
We can! We will! We must!
O, Lord! Our God! Humbled and awed,
We kneel before your power--
“Hear us this day”, our nation prays,
“And save us from this hour”.
Yet hearts before were sick and sore
And lambs to slaughters led,
At horrible cost meek lives were lost
And innocent blood was shed.
“How long, O Lord”, martyrs implored,
“Until our blood is avenged?”
“Take your rest, my weary blest,
We’ll make of them an end.”
Faithful and True, on white horse loosed,
Makes war on great and small,
Blood-red vest upon His chest
Proclaims God, Lord of all!
Still we weep in disbelief,
Lives gone in dust and smoke
Yet from the dust, “In God we trust!”
It’s high time we awoke.
God’s Son we see nailed to a tree,
Who puts men to the test--
“Take up your cross and follow me”—
He calls for righteousness.
