We are living in a time where war has been waged on freedom of speech unlike never before. Be it online or in the living, breathing world, our rights to free speech are infringed upon at every turn by big tech, government, and the Court of Public Opinion by way of cancel culture. As a free speech absolutist that has fought for my platform users' voices against Big Tech, the United States Department of Justice, and the House Select Committee Investigating January Sixth, I have seen firsthand how the slope becomes more slippery each and every day. This is especially true for Conservatives whose ideals go against the very narratives of most big tech companies, liberal legacy media, and the current political administration in power. Most recently, the world has been thrust into this arena of discussion and debate by the arrest of Pavel Durov, the Founder of the popular private messaging app, Telegram. While the arrest shocked many of Telegram's 900,000,000 users, it did not shock me by any means. In fact, I expected it. My platform, WiMKiN, standing for World Must Know Now in honor of free speech, which is about 1/100 of the size of Telegram, has been attacked daily since our launch in September of 2020. Be it by Distributed Denial of Service ("DDoS") attacks, the Anti- Defamation League putting out hit pieces to attack us on Twitter, App Store Bans, attempts at selling illegal drugs and weapons, and pornography, a day hasn't passed where we don't experience at least one instance of attack. The most explicit attacks occur when bad actors attempt to upload child pornography. In Wimkin's history, we've had a total of five instances where a bad actor attempted to upload child pornography to our platform. All five instances resulted in us immediately contacting authorities and cooperating directly with them in order to prosecute the pedophile offenders.It is vital to understand the mindset of the Conservative that has been censored for over a decade, while being called conspiracy theorists for bringing the fact to light. Many influencers had their entire livelihoods taken from them by YouTube, Facebook and other big tech platforms that monetize. That angst is no doubt very real and palpable, but it can not affect Conservative's judgment on Telegram and Durov. It is quite surprising to me seeing so much support for Durov coming from Conservatives. Durov, who knowingly allowed channels on Telegram to trade child pornography and dedicated to trafficking children. One of the largest groups to be purged from big tech was those in the "Qanon" movement that landed at Telegram. "Qanon" is a movement that is dedicated to stopping the child sex trafficking perpetrated by the elite. A cursory search in the Telegram app produces channels on one phone screen, comprising over 200,000 members. It is estimated that Qanon related channels have over 25,000,000 members on Telegram. In addition, child pornography and trafficking are despicable in the hearts of Conservatives. So, where exactly is this support for Telegram and Durov coming from when Conservatives denounce the very crimes that Durov has allowed to happen on his platform and was justifiably charged with? Many Conservatives are giving Durov the benefit of the doubt with the sentiment "he didn't know it was there" or "Telegram is too big to police." I assure you, Durov knew exactly what was happening on his platform, and he had full ability to stop such if he cared to. Considering he ignored the cries from countless child advocate groups and the demands of dozens of governments where Telegram operates to respond to their investigations, not only did he know, but he willfully allowed it to occur on his platform. This fact makes him directly complicit in the exploitation, trafficking, abuse, and even deaths of many children. Let's not even get into the fact Telegram is at the forefront of moving fentanyl, the world's deadliest drug and how many lives were lost there. In tech, there are many options to stop this filth from being uploaded to any platform. Through the development of AI, I can name a dozen photo recognition programs that scan all images and disallow any depictions of sex acts. These programs can be filtered to nearly any type of content one wishes to bar from their allowed content. These programs are extremely cost efficient, not that such would matter to Durov, who is a billionaire. In addition, having human moderators who are dedicated to keeping a platform crime free, is always an added option. With both photo recognition and moderators for criminal activity, a platform can be kept clean.While what is free speech, and what is not, is a debate that has and will continue to evolve, one fact is inarguable. Free speech does not extend to criminal acts, and it never will. Wimkin is a free speech platform with 3 community rules: No pornography, no nudity, and no posts with a criminal element.
