Michael Akerbergs (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 58,569) saw floating islands of Stratocumulus clouds above Criciúma, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Beneath the clouds were streaks of virga, precipitation that dissipated in the warm evening air long before reaching the ground. ‘At first blush, this seemed to be just a normal stunning sunset,’ said Michael. ‘But what made this even more spectacular was the angle of lighting.’ The setting Sun and distant clouds were at just the right angles to illuminate the streaks of virga while shrouding in shadow the patches of Stratocumulus from which they fell.
