The cartoon bird Woody Woodpecker appeared to Charles Gagnebin (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 60,234) over Springfield, Virginia, US in this patch of the disc-shaped form of the mid-level Altocumulus cloud that is known as Altocumulus lenticularis. The bird’s head feathers were provided by parallel ridges within the clouds known as Altocumulus lenticularis undulatus. Its beak came courtesy of some passing Cumulus fractus clouds that were drifting by below.
