"FAITH IN GOD WILL SHUT THE LION'S MOUTH"
"And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt
Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God." (Daniel 6:20-23)
Daniel is one of those godly people we read about in the Scriptures who lived what he believed. He lived by faith, and his faith was in the Lord. But persecution from the ungodly was the main course of his daily diet. And you know as well as I do that Satan was behind that whole shebang.
Yet, Daniel wouldn't bend or bow to the to the pressures of his day. He had a much higher and nobler outlook on life. His outward look was the result of an upward look. The last 5 words in verse 23 tells about his look, "...he believed in his God."
Now this 6th chapter tell us that Daniel had been promoted to a position of great prominence. Darius saw that there was something different about this guy. Daniel was a man who was not ashamed to speak with great boldness concerning the Word of God.
As a matter of fact, Darius was all set to make him the prime minister. That position would mean that Daniel would have been the most powerful man in the entire kingdom, next to Darius himself. And all that was the result that Daniel had an excellent in him.
But uh oh! Wouldn't you just know it, here comes Daniel’s enemies foaming at the mouth like a bunch of rabid dogs filled with anger and jealously. But they couldn't find anything wrong with him. They knew they couldn’t stop Daniel unless they could shove the blame on something he did.
So, do you remember what that bunch of whining liberals did? They went and convinced ole Darius to sign a decree that no man could call on any god except the king for thirty days, and the king passed a law forbidding prayer to any god.
Now, did that stop Daniel? What will Daniel do? I'll tell you exactly what he did. He didn’t change a thing. He kept right on praying. To me, Daniel is a shining example of 1 Thessalonians 5:17, "Pray without ceasing."
Well, the trap had been set, and the king was distressed because even he could not change his own decree. So, off goes Daniel into the lion’s den. But God shut the lions’ mouths, and Daniel was delivered.
It is worth noting here that God did not keep Daniel out of the lion's den. He certainly had the power to do so. Many is the time we're a lion's den, and just as it was with Daniel, God surely has the power to keep you and I safe during those hardships that we often encounter.
But here's some good news. We, as His children, never have to go it alone! With every difficulty that tries to stop us and with every deception that tries to slay us, the One Who saved us will never leave nor forsake us while the lions bellow their accusations.
The great message which has been echoing from the lion's den since the day it happened is that God will be right there in the midst as we face adversities and problems.
You know as well as I do that everyone on this planet faces hardships in life. All of us have our fair share of difficulties and the devil is always lurking nearby to make sure that we get a sure supply. But Christians have the hope that no matter what, God will see them through.
Therefore friends, let's remember those 5 words from Daniel 6:23, "he believed in his God." Yes, our faith in God will shut that lying lion's mouth every time it roars just like it did with Daniel.
