"THEREFORE" "Now THEREFORE, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name." (1 Chronicles 29:13) (caps mine)According to Strong's Concordance, the word "THEREFORE" is found 1,237 times in the Bible. Many of us have heard that saying, "Whenever you see a THEREFORE in the Scriptures, always try to find out what that THEREFORE is there for." My 8th grade English teacher, Miss Smith, used to tell us the same thing. She'd say that the word "THEREFORE" alluded to something that was previously stated.Well, the usage of this particular THEREFORE in verse 13 is found in the previous verse. Verse 12 reads, "Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all." David’s declaration here is that everything we have comes from God.You know folks, no matter how hard we may have worked in the past, or how hard we are working presently, or how well we may have done or are doing, everything that we are enjoying ultimately comes from God’s gracious hand.Do you have food and clothing, and have a roof over your head? You must have because you're alive and breathing having not been reduced to skin and bones else you wouldn't be reading this post on your computer, tablet, or phone. Have you moved up the ladder at your place of employment? Have your accomplishments become well-known as a success in certain circles? Then it is God who has given you the skills, the health, and the mind to prosper in this way.On the other hand, perhaps you have not known any measure of success, or been honored as of late. But if you are His child, then God, in His perfect wisdom and with His mighty hand, has dispensed to you exactly what is best for you. He knows not only what you need, but what you can handle. Praise God for that truth!Friends, perhaps you may even be facing confrontations and persecutions this very hour from those enemies of the Lord because of your testimony and witness for Jesus Christ. But know this: your Heavenly Father can deliver you from whatever difficulty you're facing today. THEREFORE, together, we can thank God and praise His glorious Name!
