About the same age as stone hebge, this stone structure is known as 'The Burren' in Ireland. It would have been originally made to bury someone of importance inside. Eventually the body would decompose and another person would have been put inside and on and on, until full. As many of these persons were buried with their favourite belongings or tokens to give to the person in the afterlife who needed to be paid to row the soul of the dead person across the River Styx to the promised land, meant that eventually a small pile of gold would be found within. Of course , thieves came along and pinched everything. They couldn't care less about paying to cross the Sacred River...all they could care about was buying as much ale as possible from the local tavern. Either that or they'd use the money to do a moonlight flit to the boat to England as life in Ireland has always been quite difficult.
