"THE CONSEQUENCES OF DISOBEDIANCE." "And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes." (Judges 16:28)Judges 16 gives you and I a powerful reminder of our human frailty, even among the strongest of us. However, it also emphasizes God's divine might, showing that even in our weakest moments, when we turn back to Him, we can find the strength to conquer adversities. Now, Samson judged Israel for twenty years with a saintly belief and a strong back. But he was one of those many who started out right path but took wrong turn as he traveled down the road. Thank God that his hair began to grow again, and it reminded him of the calling for which his God had appointed him to.The picture of a wasted life is never pretty sight, for we see him now with his eyes gouged out and reduced to grinding away at the devil's mill under lock and key in the enemy's prison house. He's an ordinary man now, with his spiritual strength sapped and he remains powerless to fight the daily battles of life. Only a young lad is found to lead him to a point where Samson stands between two pillars, listening to the jeers of those that one time trembled at the mere mention of his name. The portrait here in chapter 16 of this one time "devoted might" now reduced to a "defeated man" could have gone on for years had it not been for the first six words of verse 28, "And Samson called unto the LORD."You know folks, prayer can restore any broken relationship with God. One of the filthiest tools that Satan uses against the saints of God when they have grown sour in their fellowship with their Saviour is that he makes them feel unworthy to even look for help from Heaven. Never let guilt feelings over past sins keep you from your only means of restoration. King David certainly knew a thing or two about sinning, but he also knew what he was talking about when he wrote, "He restoreth my soul:" (Psalm 23:3)Friends, any situation can be salvaged when we emulate the strongman's broken heart penned for us here; "And Samson called unto the LORD."
