CHRIST WORKING THROUGH US I recently saw a post where a brother was commenting on the work that Christ does THROUGH us versus the work that we do FOR Him. Though the brother's intentions were certainly noble, I believe he was incorrect in assuming that there is a difference between these two works. His thinking seemed to be that we are supposed to do things FOR Jesus in addition to having Jesus work through us, so let's not be lazy and expect the Lord to do everything. There's one huge problem with that. Jesus said, ". . . without me ye can do nothing." (John 15:5) Anything that a believer does FOR the Lord is really a matter of yielding himself TO the Lord (Rom. 6:13). Please notice Hebrews 13:20-21, where both OUR work and GOD'S work are tied together: "Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work TO DO HIS WILL, WORKING IN YOU that which is wellpleasing in his sight, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." In other words, if what you are doing is really FOR THE LORD, then it is the Lord doing it THROUGH you as His Spirit leads. It's no more complicated than that. To say, "I did this for the Lord" is the same as saying, "I yielded myself to the Lord and allowed him to work through me." Separating the two is a mistake, because without the Lord, we can do NOTHING (John 15:5). As for being lazy and expecting the Lord to do everything, that's a different subject altogether.
