Soon Angry
Proverbs 14:17
“He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.”
Ecclesiastes 7:9
“Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.”
It is never a good outcome when one is soon angry or hasty in spirit to be angry. The phrase “soon angry” speaks of being quick tempered. It means one shows anger before they think about what it might cause. We are taught here that jumping quickly to anger can cause a person to do foolish things. We are also taught a person can be known as a fool who has a hasty spirit of anger.
There are several external causes that can cause one to be soon angry. Being hungry, we call this sometimes “hangry”, or anger because you are hungry. Being outside in the heat can have the same effect, so can the lack of sleep. But often the source of one being soon angry is not an external source but an inward one, like bitterness. Bitterness can cause one to be soon angry often which can lead to hurting many (Hebrews 12:15).
Do you find yourself sometimes being hasty in spirit and soon angry?
If so, ask yourself why?
Ask God to forgive you.
If the cause is an internal one like bitterness get some help! When a person is constantly angry the result is never good.
