"Welcome to the Priesthood""But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood"--(1 Peter 2:9).If I appealed to the congregation Sunday morning--"Is there a priest in the house?"--I would hope you wouldn't look around for one of the pastors. If you're a believer, you should stand up, along with every other believer, because, as Peter mentioned, you have been anointed a priest.Welcome to the priesthood. In Old Testament Israel it was a huge privilege to be a priest. They stood in special relationship to God; they offered the daily sacrifices; they had access to parts of the temple no one else could visit; and they were guardians of the law.So what does being a priest look like for you? Well, here's good news, you don't have to kill any sheep. That was the old. The new priest offers himself, as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). He also offers the sacrifice of praise--by confessing his name (Hebrews 13:15). We intercede for others, just like the priests of old, by approaching the throne of God and praying for others. There's much more to this, of course. I've just scratched the surface, but I wanted to make you aware of the privileged status that's been afforded you in Christ. You are not just another in the faceless mass of humanity. You are a child of God, a joint-heir with Jesus Christ, and a royal priest.Remember that when you're feeling stressed today.
