"GOD IS THE STRENGTH OF MY HEART."
"My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever." (Psalm 73:26)
Many years ago, I read a story about an elderly couple who had been married for 72 years. One day they were involved in a terrible car accident, and both were rushed to the hospital. In the ICU, the couple were together in the same room. The two held hands as they were attended to. It was not long until the husband passed while holding hands with his wife.
Around the two stood the family watching, as their father passed on. Although the husband had breathed his last breath, the family observed that their father’s still connected monitor showed a heartbeat.
Quickly, a staff member was summoned to explain why their father still had a heartbeat. The explanation was that, because the two were holding hands, the monitor was showing the heartbeat of the wife.
Oh my! What a lovely picture of how very close the Lord Jesus is to you and I and what He has done and is doing for each of us. When a child of God leaves this world, they live on because of the ever-beating heart of their precious Saviour! The Psalmist reminds us that our lives are forever safe in His hand saying, "My times are in thy hand." (Psalm 31:15)
Make no mistake about it, folks, our earthly life will soon pass away, but our eternal life will never perish. From the very lips of our Saviour, we have His guarantee that He will securely and safely hold each of His children in His own Hand promising us, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." (John 10:28-29)
Friends, how wonderful to know when that appointed day, which will surely come to pass, we have His sure promise when our frail hearts are stilled, His strong Heart yet beats on within us, "My flesh and my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever."
