The Things We Seek1 Chronicles 16:10-11 - “Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.” This is taken from a Psalm of David, Psalm 105. The Psalm was sung when they brought in the Ark of God and set it in the place David had made for it. To David and the people of God the Ark represented the power, presence, and provision of God. Under David’s leadership they pursued or sought after the Ark. It was a top priority for David and the people of God. What are you seeking in life? A better question would be, who are you seeking in life? It is amazing how we will put forth great effort to obtain the things we really want. In the Declaration of Independence we read that a fundamental right of all Americans, “endowed by their Creator” is “the pursuit of Happiness”. Somehow I do not think the writers and signers meant that the pursuit of happiness was to mean what it means for some today. A man once told me that the reason he committed adultery was he felt he had the right to be happy. What about the rights of his wife and children? Verse 11 of our text puts life into perspective, “Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.” How often, and how diligently do any of us seek the LORD, His strength, and His face? Continually?!
