The Go GetterSome people talk about it, others are go getters. Preaching for more than 33 years and pastoring over 25, I have seen both in the church. In Proverbs 2:1-5 we read; “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.” Note the following words that denote an action; “receive”, “hide”, “incline”, “apply”, “criest”, “liftest”, “seekest”, and “searchest”. These words show a deliberate action. All of these words show that if one hopes to find and live in the wisdom and understanding of God then they are going to have be a go getter! You will have to go after them because they do not automatically come. Do you daily find yourself reading and studying the Bible? Do you daily pray, seeking God for His wisdom? The LORD gives wisdom (Proverbs 2:6) but that wisdom comes when you pursue it! Knowing and applying the wisdom of God helps one to “understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God”. All Christians need to better understand the fear of the LORD and know more about God. Do you pursue these things for your Christian life? What are you pursuing? What are you going after? Are you the kind of Christian who talks about living the Christian life or are you a go getter? Do you go after God and the holy life?
