"When Your Boss is Difficult"
So it’s like this…God puts you in a position where you are working for a boss who’s mean and nasty--Who threatens to fire you and black list you and withhold your wages if you don’t do what he says…
Others might fear such a boss but we don’t. We fear God. And that God has put us in this situation and he tells us to submit to that boss; to work hard and honorably, to return good for evil, to be respectful, to take the high road. All the other employees complain, retaliate by doing shoddy work, bad mouth him, and they expect you to do the same. But you don’t. Because the God you fear has told you to patiently endure this kind of evil treatment—and this boss is his hands.
According to Peter (1 Peter 2:19,20) God considers this a gracious thing. When you take the high road and bear the abuse while suffering unjustly—this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.
In cases like that I imagine God calls to the hosts of heaven: “Come take a look—see my servant? Is this not a beautiful thing? How he demonstrates his new nature? See how powerfully he resists evil and does good? How he responds with good will and kindness. How his soft answers turn away wrath? Is he not remarkably like my Son Jesus?"
Make no mistake—he hates what’s happening, but he put you there to endure abuse for his names sake and for the sake of the gospel. That was the testimony of believers under Nero…you couldn’t break them. Do matter how badly you treated them they came back singing and rejoicing and exuding peace. They never got angry or took revenge. There was no way to explain them except their God.
