PRAYING WITHOUT CEASING
Acts 12:5 - “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 - “Pray without ceasing.”
I often wonder if the church is utilizing prayer as we should. It is our only way of letting God know our requests. I am aware that we pray and thank God for our food and maybe utter some prayer to start or end our day, but is that praying without ceasing?
We pray in public when called upon to do so. But do we as these two verses teach us, “pray without ceasing”.
Though these verses carry the same phrase their meanings are different.
Peter found himself in prison and the church called for a prayer meeting and “prayer was made without ceasing… unto God for him”. It means they were fervently, intensely praying for him. And God heard their prayers! Peter was miraculously released.
In 1 Thessalonians we are told to “Pray without ceasing.”
It means to pray without intermission. It means to continually pray. I wonder, how many of us have prayed fervently and continually this week?
Would you consider your prayer life to be fervent and continuous?
May God help us to pray without ceasing.
