"THE BROKEN-HEARTED BELIEVER." "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." (Psalm 34:18)One day a little girl and her mother were walking down a sidewalk after a rainstorm had subsided. They watched as the sun was now shining brightly reflecting a beautiful rainbow on the pavement. As they walked along, they noticed that someone had spilled some garbage on the pavement. Seeing that, the little girl cried out with a broken heart, “Oh Mommy, look!! That beautiful rainbow has been smashed!”Have you had something beautiful in your life that has smashed lately that brought about a broken heart? Perhaps life right now doesn't seem to be shining as brightly as it once did. How can you again behold the beautiful rainbow of promises that God has for your life?In that above verse I posted we read one of the most Treasured Truths from God's Promise Book, "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart;" We read that to be near Him is to be like Him. Folks, the Lord knows what it means to have a broken heart. Again and again, we read in the Scriptures about our grieving and broken-hearted God. The Scriptures remind us about our grieving Saviour being a "man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” ( Isaiah 53:3) He knew great grief during His life, and He knows all about the greatness of the grief in our life.During those times of our own broken-hearted grief, the Lord desires to be near us. As a matter of fact, the Lord desires to be near us more than we desire to be near Him! How close can you get to God? You can get as close to Him as you want and know that He will meet you there. James 4:8 reminds us, "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you."Remember also that God will never look the other way or become impatient with us when our hearts are breaking. For we hear the Psalmist declare the exact opposite with those tender words, "... a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." (Psalm 51:17)The Lord Jesus Himself stated His mission at the very outset of His ministry saying, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted," (Luke 4:18a)Friends, do you have a broken heart that needs healing? Then come and draw nigh unto Him and give the Great Physician all the pieces of your broken heart right now.
