Beware Of Covetousness Luke 12:15 - “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” This statement by our Lord is sandwiched between a man asking Jesus to speak to his brother about dividing the inheritance with him (Luke 12:13, 14) and a parable about building bigger barns that bestow all one’s goods so he can take ease of life (Luke 12:16-21). The warning of our Lord ought to ring loud in our spiritual ears; Beware of covetousness!! If one is not very careful one will so settle down in this world until they reach a point that they have no heart for the home Jesus has gone to prepare (John 14:2). If a man’s life “consisteth not in the abundance of things which he posseseth” then why do so many lay up so much treasure here on earth? Take a drive through a housing development and note how many houses have a garage but there is no room to park the car in it. I think we are living in a day that so many have so much but still want more. “Never content” would be a fitting description of many Christians today. “Beware of covetousness” is the warning of our Lord! Having a greedy desire to have more may give you the more you want, but will you have any room left in your heart for the Lord to dwell?
