"BUT JOY COMETH."
"For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." (Psalm 30:5)
A night of weeping can sometimes appear to be endless. When sorrow comes over us in waves, when disappointments follow hard on the heels of each other, when physical pain wracks our body, the tears during that night season flow freely and our heart weighs heavy. Our soul becomes so burdened, even our prayers before the Throne of Grace are a mere groan and a whimper for help.
Ah, but here is the great consolation of Scripture. Joy is coming! Heartaches may seem to linger, but joy is irresistibly moving toward you and I and will reach us with its darkness-shattering power when the curtain of dawn springs open. Now matter how severe the shadows, no matter how stormy the darkness, once the dawn comes the night is easily and quickly forgotten. The darkness may be great, yet the Presence of Jesus Christ drives it away with the fullness of His joy.
For you and I as Christians, the promise of joy is ours. Is the energy and beauty of youth behind us? Joy cometh! Has health and strength left us? Joy cometh! Have we lost a loved one to that old hungry enemy named death? Joy cometh!
Yes, friends, weeping may endure because there are the sorrows of life that simply cannot be faced without tears. But take heart, joy cometh and the dawn of His appearing is approaching!
