Foundations
Psalms 11:1-3 - “In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
David was making his declaration statement of faith, “In the LORD put I my trust…” The enemy needed to hear this from David. He was identifying in the face of the enemy who he was. He knew his enemy would always be ready to cause hurt to him and the righteous cause. Fleeing as a bird would not stop them. Stating the fact that he was trusting in the LORD would let them know that they were not just fighting him, but ultimately they were fighting against the LORD.
His faith in the LORD was what was holding him up.
His faith in the LORD was supporting him.
That is what is meant by the word “foundations”.
Think of this word foundation as you would the word doctrine. Notice it is in the plural. The foundation of our Christian faith is Jesus Christ, that is a doctrine in and of itself. But the church has other doctrines as well. The church also uses the phrase fundamentals of the faith when describing these doctrines. The day in which we live is a day that calls for the Christian to stand up and declare their faith in Jesus Christ and what they believe in. Stating the absolute truths of the Word of God is the first step in establishing sure foundations for the future.
May God help us in these matters.
Do not be afraid to stand and make your statement of declaration in the Christ you believe in and what you believe about Him and His Word!
