Believing… John 20:31 - “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” In this verse I see two aspects of the Christian life, believe and believing. One must “believe” in Jesus the Son of God in order to be born again but that same one must be “believing” to face whatever life brings. When one is saved it took “grace… through faith” in order to save. Once saved that same person is kept by God’s grace, they are eternally saved by grace! But to say the same will never have to exercise faith again is false! In Romans 15:13 Paul wrote to believers; “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” One step at a time, each moment in each day, takes faith. I know and am confident I have hope in Christ that I will see Him one day, but some days I need that hope to help me through the moment. I need to abound in hope. Romans 15:13 says “believing…” brings me to the place that I “may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost”. Romans 10:17 is a great verse; “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” It takes faith or belief in Jesus Christ as the Saviour to save and secure one a place in heaven, but again it takes faith or believing to navigate through this sin cursed, insane, Christ hating, God denying world. Romans 10:17 gives us the source of our faith, “the word of God”, the Bible. May the Holy Spirit burn in your heart and mine the importance for us to stay in the Word of God. It not only helped us to believe to be saved, It helps us to keep believing to “have life through His name”.
