SAVED AND SINNING? Just about every time I post something that quotes Matthew 7:20 or II Corinthians 5:17 (verses that suggest that true believers will live differently than sinners), someone just can't resist the urge to weigh in with something like, "But we still sin after we are saved. The old carnal nature is still there." Why people think that I don't know that is strange. I have known that quite well for about half a century. It's almost like they think that the old nature gives them a license to sin. Well, it doesn't. I John 2:1 says, "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." The Bible rule is NOT, "You're going to sin, so get used to it." No, the Bible rule is YOU'RE A NEW CREATURE NOW, SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT, SO WALK IN THE SPIRIT AND LIVE ABOVE SIN. IF YOU DO SIN, CONFESS IT, FORSAKE IT, AND PRESS ON FOR GOD (II Cor. 5:17; I John 2:1; Rom. 6:13-22; Gal. 5:16; I John 1:9, etc.) For the true Christian, sin is the exception, not the rule. That should be evident to anyone who names the name of Christ, but thanks to the "rightly dividing" brethren who think that no one knows how to rightly divide other than themselves, we are reminded of the sinful exception more than the holy rule! Strange, indeed. This gentle treatment on sin is one of the chief reasons that modern Christianity is in such a mess, and no one is really being helped by being constantly reminded that sin is a normal part of the Christian's life. It is NOT normal, and you'll never amount to anything for God, if you think it is. "Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." (I Pet. 1:16)
