"BUT GROW IN GRACE." "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." (2 Peter 3:18)Take notice of those first 4 words from that verse, "But grow in grace." What a marvelous way for Peter to close his final epistle. To all who have heard or read that verse over the years, it was indeed a charge, not only from Peter, but from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. That word "grace" is found 170 times in my King James Bible. Grace has been defined as God giving to us that which we do not deserve. Isn't that wonderful? God's mercy is of course God not giving us what we do deserve. And that's just as wonderful as well.To be sure, we are saved by grace thru faith (Ephesians 2:.8-9). That simply means by God's grace. Grace alone! Plus, nothing and minus nothing. No one was ever saved any other way. It was the grace in the heart of God to send His only begotten Son to provide the way whereby He would shower repentant sinners with grace. The Lord told Paul, "My grace is sufficient for thee. (2 Corinthians 12:9) God's grace is sufficient when it comes to that which any who are in need. If it was sufficient for Paul, then it certainly is sufficient for you and me. We are able to stand by the grace of God (1Peter 5:12). We are stablished, strengthened, and settled by the grace of God (1Peter 5:10)If I took the time and wanted to alliterate to aggravate some people, I could probably come up with a few more Bible S's, in this post showing different verses concerning the grace of God in the Word. So let me just simply say that the Grace of God is indeed abundant (1 Timothy 1:14).Now folks. may we never be satisfied with our present understanding of our Saviour. That's why "But grow in grace God and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ," was written. God has much more for us to learn, and by the grace of God, we are capable of receiving, enjoying, and using it for His glory. As we grow in grace, we shall discover more of our own wretchedness and weakness; and more of His preciousness, and the fulness found in Him. We shall be humbled before God, and active before men. We shall trust in Jesus more simply, having no confidence in the flesh. Grace always leads out of self to Jesus and puts the crown of crowns upon His lovely head.To grow in grace is to grow to be more like Jesus, with meekness and lowliness. Therefore, may all of us continue to grow in grace, for has God commanded it. Let us look for His imminent return while listening for the trumpet to sound when we shall be caught up to meet Him in the air. Oh, what grace God has promised His children with the glorious appearing of Jesus Christ.Friends, may those final words in Scripture found below encourage you in your Christian growth!
