The Need of the Holy SpiritActs 1:8 - “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” It was not long until this promise was fulfilled. Acts 2 records the historic miracle. When one is saved today they do not have to go into an upper room and wait to receive the Holy Ghost. He comes into ones’s life at the moment of salvation. Ephesians 1:13 - “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” Even though believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation, we must by faith appropriate the filling of the Holy Spirit in our life for our service to and for God. Ephesians 5:18 - “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” Here we are today, trying so desperately to do the work of God through our own intellect, promotions, charisma, abilities, power, etc... In every area of our life as a Christian, whether at home, church, or in the community we must look to the Holy Spirit. It is He that gives us the strength to do what we will otherwise fail at without Him. As a husband, dad, and Pawpaw I need God’s help. As a preacher I need God’s help. As a soul winner and witness I need God’s help. Do you need God’s help? That help will come through the Holy Spirit. Whom or what do you rely upon when you are doing something for God?
