God’s Timing / Waiting on the Lord
Lamentations 3:25-26
The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the person who seeks Him.
It is good that he waits silently
For the salvation of the Lord (NASB)
Waiting on the Lord will keep us from becoming reactionary to the devil. Our response should not be to the devil. We should be doing nothing on his terms or in his timing. God chooses the time and the terms of the battle.
If we look at Joshua 6 we see that the Lord told Joshua:
6:3 -- “March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days.”
6:4 -- “….On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests….”
6:5 -- “When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
God gave specific instructions on when and how to move for Joshua to defeat the enemy at Jericho. God even told them when they were to shout at the enemy.
God chose the terms too. God tells them :
“To take no prisoners, only Rahab and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies they sent .” God also told them “ All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the Lord and must go into his treasury.”
Another example:
In 2 Samuel 5:24 we see David defeats the Philistines.
2 Samuel 5:24 -- As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.”
Again, timing. David was told when and how (quickly) to move.
If you are not listening to the Lord and letting the devil set the timing you will be facing defeat.
If we look in 1 Samuel 13:8-14:
He waited seven days, the time set by Samuel; but Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and Saul’s men began to scatter. So he said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings.” And Saul offered up the burnt offering. Just as he finished making the offering, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to greet him.
“What have you done?” asked Samuel.
Saul replied, “When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Mikmash, I thought, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord’s favor.’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.”
“You have done a foolish thing,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.”
We need to trust in the Lord. He knows best. Proverbs 3:5-6 says:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.(NIV)
The Message Bible says:
Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.
If we wait on God and His timing will be successful.
God's timing is perfect!
