(Jude vs. 3-4) (caps on crept for emphasis)Jude is a one-chapter letter of warning. Jesus had given the Church the mission of spreading the Gospel to the world (Acts 1:8). As the Good news did indeed begin to spread, Satan and his thugs counterattacked from several different angles. The devil's business is to blind folks to the truth and bind them to what is false. He has an appetite to imitate the Almighty but can never duplicate God's Holiness. That's because he's been nothing more than an accusing liar from day 1 in the garden when he hissed and suggested to Eve that God was holding out on her and Adam.The first thing they brought about at that time in the Book of Acts was physical persecution. In other words, they tried to beat the living daylights out of them. But that only seemed to strengthen the conviction of those believers with great joy to be counted worthy to suffer for Christ (Acts 5:40-41). The deaths of martyrs like Stephen inspired others to give their lives to Christ. The other attacks came from within. Prominent men gained positions of authority in the Church, but they failed continue teaching the apostles' doctrine. By flattery and deception, they influenced some in the Church to hear their denying doctrines on the deity of the Lord of Jesus Christ. To make it plain and simple, they were nothing more Disciples of Damnation! As it was in New Testament times, their tribe continues on these days within the numerous cults and sects as they roam the streets and knock on the doors of unlearned victims with their putrid pamphlets and pernicious ways. It is not always easy to spot them because of the subtlety of these people. Those who are aired on the boob tube promote that foolish prosperity gospel along financial gain involved in their teachings. Yet, the only financial gain to be gotten is by them so they can live high on the hog in the most beautiful estates in town, fly around in their personal jets, and have several expensive vehicles that would take a lifetime for you and me to come up with the down payment for just one. Paul, Peter, and John also warned the Churches back then about these deceivers. I can almost imagine the stinging epistle that Paul would write to that Laodicean crowd today.It is not that this bunch deny that Jesus came, for that would be too obvious. They deny His leadership over their lives. The fruit of their ministry gives them away. They draw people to themselves and not to Jesus Christ. Those kinds of false prophets love the applause and accolades from their followers. If you were to hear some of them while wearing their high-priced suits and some sparkling jewelry while babbling away about nothing on the TV while they strut around on a stage with a microphone in hand like they're some kind of a nightclub singer. Some poor soul might be led to think they somehow saw Elijah take off to Heaven riding in a chariot. Those that fall for that type of nonsense love the speaker more than the Saviour.Friends let's just continue, as those early Christians did, to proclaim and spread the message of salvation through our testimony or with some Gospel tracts and point men, women, and children to Jesus Christ. For His words lead to eternal life (John 6:68).
