WHY WE MAY BE TESTEDOne reason you may be tempted and tried is that God, in His wise providence, is testing you to see whether you are a fit person for His work. Before a firearm is sold, it is taken to a testing area. There, it is loaded with a charge, perhaps four or five times heavier than it will ever have to carry at the ordinary sportsman’s hand. The barrels are fired, and no great hurt is done if they burst in the proof-house. It would have been exceedingly dangerous if the weapon had not been tested and had burst in the hands of some hunter.So, God takes His servants. Some He intends to make special use of. He puts them to the test, perhaps loads them with five times more temptations than is ordinary, so He may see and prove to onlookers that they are meant for the Divine service and are helped by God.
