LETTING TOMORROW SPOIL TODAY:ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES WE MAKE I guess we could all look back and point out individual seasons, days and moments in our past that stand out as being the toughest times. I can easily point to the single toughest day of my life, just as I can point to the greatest day of my life, and most readers of this post can do the same. Sometime this old flesh even LIKES to dwell on such hardships in hopes of drawing a bit of sympathy from others. But have you ever pondered what might be the hardest thing TO DO as a Christian? Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow might never come, so what about TODAY? What is the hardest thing for you and I to do TODAY? Psalm 118:24 says, "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." I think THAT is the hardest thing to do. Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow isn't yet here, so what about TODAY? Will it be ruined by yesterday's sorrow or by tomorrow's fears? Will I obey my Lord and not worry about what tomorrow might bring, since today is quite enough (Mat. 6:34)? If God grants me tomorrow, then perhaps I can rejoice and be glad in it as well, but He HAS granted me TODAY. What will I do with it? One of the hardest things for a Christian to do is simply rejoice and be glad in TODAY without spoiling it with tomorrow's uncertainties. I suspect that very few of us really ever allow TODAY to be all that it CAN be. Turning in a perfect 100 score for TODAY is a goal for which we should all be striving, yet our lack of faith in God and our fretting over tomorrow causes us to fall short continually. Truly living by faith, rejoicing and trusting God one day at a time to the fullest, is definitely one of the hardest things that a believer will ever do, and we will fail miserably, if we ignore the word of God and prayer. "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psa. 118:24)
