The Invitation
Matthew 11:28 - “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
John 7:37 - “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”
Six times in the four Gospels we find Christ extending the invitation; “Come unto me…” Of these six times, three of them are extended as permission for children to come unto Him. And for us who are adults Christ warns us to “suffer not” little children from coming unto Him. Which means, we better not hinder little children from coming to Jesus!
We would be hard pressed to find better, sweeter, and more comforting words for when we are hurting, burdened, and broken than those words from Christ, “Come unto me…”
In the last book of the Bible we once more find the invitation given to “Come”.
Revelation 22:17 - “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
Three times in one verse!
Life is hard.
It is full of moments and circumstances that leave us wondering what will we do and thinking who will we turn to. May we never forget that Christ invites us all to, “Come unto me”.
All we have to do is exercise our faith and take a step in His direction. We do not find rejection when we come unto Jesus (John 6:37).
The invitation is given, Christ is still saying, “Come unto me…”
