The Word of God and a Burning Heart"And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." (Luke 24:27)The 24th chapter of Luke is a Treasure Chest showing triumphant in every verse. The good Doctor, who was one of Paul's traveling companions. showcases events following Jesus' crucifixion, His resurrection, and appearances to His disciples, and His journey with the two disciples to Emmaus, and His ascension. Let's follow along with those two disciples for a moment and think about that profitable journey they must have enjoyed that day as they walked along that road to Emmaus. They had as their traveling companion the Teacher who was the best of Tutors. For in Him was hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Oh, what an education in spiritual insight that must have been!When almost at Emmaus, Jesus and that bewildered pair stopped for their evening meal. As Jesus gave thanks and broke the bread to begin the meal, they suddenly recognized who He was. He immediately disappeared from their sight, for such was the mysterious nature of His resurrected body (Luke 24:28-31). Those two disciples were deeply stirred by his teaching and, without waiting to rest their weary bodies, hurried back the twelve kilometers to Jerusalem to tell the apostles and other disciples of their discovery.You know folks, our Lord stood before thousands often to teach and preach during His 3 years of ministry here on Earth. Yet, He was never too busy to minister to a hungry and bewildered pair such as these two. Throughout the Gospels, we find our Saviour ever ready to hear, then answer the beckoning cry of those who asked for life and light. To be sure, He yearns to walk alongside you and I today and teach and guide us on the sweetest of topics that would surely benefit us as we learn to be more like Him and less like us.The Living Word of God eagerly awaits at this very moment to expound to each of us The Written Word of God. The result of such a meeting would be like that written in verse 32, "... Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?"Friends, oh what a tremendous understanding of the Scriptures will be ours to profit from when Jesus opens our understanding.
