The Bible Study –
Our readings for Friday, April 5 are Exodus 18:5-27 & Hebrews 12:1-14.
We have two clear lessons in practical theology from our Old Testament reading:
1) choose Godly spouses,
2) and as Christian leaders learn to delegate authority to Godly Christians so we don’t grow weary.
The Book of Hebrews counsels us to look to Christ alone as the founder and perfecter of our faith, and for spiritual endurance and strength that comes only from Him.
We should not grow weary, or turn away, when the Lord disciplines us, as every caring Father does:
“nor be weary when reproved by him.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”
God’s Law, the Ten Commandments, shows us our sin, driving sinners to repentance and the precious relief of the Gospel.
We don't make a 'decision' for Jesus.
He has cone to earth and now through the Holy Spirit works faith within us using God's means of grace: His Word and Sacraments.
It is Christ, our Lord & Saviour, who paid for our sins with His precious blood on the cross.
He is the sole mediator between us and our Holy, perfect Father.
Amen.
