Learning, Comfort, & Hope
Romans 15:4
“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
The “things written aforetime” is without a doubt a reference to the Bible .
Do you love the Bible?
Do you daily read it and study it?
Years ago I had the privilege of meeting an elderly couple who were of such a sweet disposition. They lived in a very small one bedroom apartment. They did not have much by this world’s standard but they were always smiling, filled with joy, and so pleasant to be around. Upon visiting them one day I found the secret to their joy. It was the fact that they had fell in love with the Bible. Upon that visit I found them sitting at the kitchen table, Bibles opened, note pads, and pens close by. I asked the man,
“Are you a preacher?”
He replied,
“No, just a Christian.”
It is odd that we think the only ones who ought to be so in love with the Bible are preachers. Our verse promises us that the Bible was written for our learning.
Who and what do we learn about when we read the Bible?
As we read and study it with patience, we find comfort in the Scriptures that gives us hope. Wouldn’t you agree that all of us could use more hope! I have found that this world and all the things in it offer me nothing that can bring to my heart comfort and hope.
Isn’t it wonderful that our God would grant to us such a great and holy book called the Bible?!
It was written for our learning.
It was written to bring us comfort.
And it was written to give us hope.
What do you love about the Bible?
