The Foolishness Of Preaching
1 Corinthians 1:18, 21, 23, 24
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God… For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe… But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;… But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.”
To some in this world the preaching of Jesus Christ crucified, risen, and coming again is utter foolishness. But this is the way that God has chosen as the primary means in which to get the Gospel message into all the world. To the world it is a silly and absurd way to tell a story.
There is a central message the preacher is to preach; “Christ crucified”!
This message is “the power of God”. And God uses all kinds of men to accomplish this task. They are different in styles of delivery, they have different personalities, and yet when Christ is preached it is “the power of God” that changes the heart of the vilest sinner.
Why did God choose such a way?
The answer is given in 1 Corinthians 1:29 - “That no flesh should glory in his presence.”
To some in the world the preaching of Jesus Christ makes little sense, but to us who are saved it is “the wisdom of God”.
If you happen to be a member of a church that emphasizes the preaching of Christ crucified, and is endeavoring to take that message into all the world you ought to be thankful to God. Such a church is becoming a rare place in our world today.
