The Bible Study – Our readings for Wednesday, April 3 are Exodus 16:13-35 & Hebrews 10:19-39. The Lord promised Moses bread, manna from the sky, to physically feed God’s people. This miracle points to the coming Messiah, Jesus, who will be the true bread come down from Heaven who sustains believers unto eternal life. (John 6:32; 6:33; 6:51) The Israelites will show a lack of faith and refuse to enter the physical promised land. They’ll eat manna for 40 years until the rebellious generation dies in the desert. A faithful generation will enter the land God pledged. The writer of Hebrews calls us to “draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,” and to “hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” (Heb. 10:22-23) While we sin daily, God is faithful in His promises. The Holy Spirit works faith in us using God’s means of grace: His Word and Sacraments. Those who accept the free gift of faith in Christ will enter the eternal Promised Land of Heaven. Those who sin against the Holy Spirit by denying Christ as Saviour, or falling away from the faith, will face judgment and eternal punishment. We’re saved by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. Amen.
