"I HAVE SINNED" "And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die." (II Sam. 12:13)As you know, David had just committed adultery with a woman and then had her husband killed. We know from his prayer in Psalms 51 that he had been under Holy Ghost conviction over his sin, so when Nathan the prophet confronted him about the matter, he openly confessed, "I have sinned." Then he was told that God had put away his sin.Unlike the blind and wretched Laodiceans of our day, David didn't say, "Well, you know, Nathan, life is a growing and learning experience where we all have the same goal of pleasing God, but we take our journeys in different ways. Let's pray for one another, Nathan, and let's respect one another as we are both striving for the same goal."No, that's just a sickly way of covering sin and rebellion, and David's sin would have never been put away had he responded in such a way. He knew how to say, "I have sinned." Anything less is a lie. Just asked the prodigal (Luke 15:18-21).
