Our Bible readings:
Old Testament – Daniel 6:1-24
Psalm 16
Epistle – 1st Peter 4:1-8
Gospel – Matthew 27:57-66
Two thousand years ago, on this day after the crucifixion, our Lord’s followers were heart-broken, fearful, with many in seclusion.
They had forgotten our Saviour’s promise: “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” (Mark 9:31)
Today, many believers may feel secluded, perhaps even fearful. In this broken world we suffer.
Remember the great promise our Redeemer has made to you.
In His commitment is our ultimate, eternal hope: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live . . .” (John 11:25)
You are not alone, our Saviour reassured us: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.” (John 14:18-20)
Though the night of the Easter vigil may seem long, we will celebrate tomorrow.
May the peace, grace, and mercy found only in our crucified and risen Lord be with you now and forever. Amen.
