UPCOMING ARTICLE PREVIEW FOR THE BLAZE:
Against the Narrative: Behind the Scenes Big Tech Censorship
When it comes to defining "Big Tech," most people would state that Google is the posterchild of the term. Given the fact Google is the number one search engine in the world and has its hands in every Android phone on earth, "most people" wouldn't be wrong. Google also owns YouTube, FitBit, Waze, Gmail, which is the largest email provider and has been since 2004, and is responsible for every single apps' approval on Google Play. As such, Google has a direct, constant attachment to billions of people all over the globe.
Anyone that is not a sufferer of Trump Derangement Syndrome or that is not a brainwashed liberal knows that Big Tech censors Conservatives online. Be it Facebook, Twitter under Jack Dorsey with the FBI in residency at their Headquarters, the mainstream media, or search engines suppressing or feeding content in a manner contradictory to what is being looked for, censorship is always prevalent, and even moreso in an election year.
This author is no stranger to big tech censorship, and I have just fell victim to big tech again.
One of my applications, "Wimkin Social Media," which was launched in September of 2020 as a true, free speech alternative to Facebook, Twitter (now X), YouTube and Instagram was the victim of mass censorship in January of 2021. Wimkin was banned and deplatformed by both Apple and Google Play as we we're unjustly blamed for the "insurrection." In fact, we were banned for "inciting violence" which is more absurd than the people stating Joe Biden is cognitively sound.
When an app is banned or deplatformed by Apple, it is impossible for a person that is not tech savvy to sideload the banned app on their iOS devices. Doing such would involve "jailbreaking" the device and not many individuals would understand how nor go to such lengths to utilize their favorite social media app. So, Apple can cripple any company by deplatforming them and removing them from every iOS device active in the world, "overnight." One day your app is able to be accessed on the billion plus iPhones in the world, and the next it is not. Google Play is a bit different. On Android, apps are able to be sideloaded however, will show a warning "this file may harm your device" when being downloaded from anywhere that is not the Google Playstore. How many users immediately reject the download due to said warning?
Whether you have an iOS device or an Android, the respective app stores for each are designed for user convenience and for developers' success. Nearly every phone in North America is either an iOS or Android operating system. It isn't feasible for an app developer to be successful when losing the reach of nearly 100% of North America because the app stores do not like your app. The power Apple and Google Play have over their developers and their users is immense. Wimkin estimates losses of $4,000.00 per day in advertising monetization when our apps are not active in app stores. If they want you crippled, they can cripple you.
After an 8 month long legal battle with both Apple and Google Play, Wimkin won our right to be reinstated on both Apple and Google Play in September of 2021. Currently, Wimkin is releasing an app update for iOS and Google Play that offers new features and a far better experience for every Wimkin app user. Google has rejected our app updates, and is lying about why.
On 3/13/24, Google Developer contacted this author stating they were rejecting the updated Wimkin app due to Wimkin not having "block and reporting features for content moderation." This is a flat out lie, and their app review specialists even utilized these features when testing the app for approval by reporting eight (8) instances of content and users while testing. We promptly appealed providing screenshots of the report and blocking features, plus their app review specialists' reports proving they not only saw the features they say are missing, but also used them. Our blocking and reporting features have not changed since our first launch in Google Play in 2020. Many updates since have been approved. This appeal was denied on 3/14/24 and we believe it is due to what is transpiring in November.
Big tech censorship is very real. Election interference is very real. The fact Google Play will not approve our app affects some 5,000,000 Wimkin users that utilize an Android phone or tablet. The Left has never been more desperate, and it shows in the indictments of Trump, the mainstream media, and censorship on Meta. Now, even the app stores are getting involved by coming up with the most ridiculous reasons not to approve Conservative leaning apps, and even reasons full of deceit.
Americans need to be hyper-aware of what is heading their way in the run up to November of 2024. The Left, which this author defines as Democrats, Big Tech, and Mainstream Media combined, have never exhibited this level of desperation. They will stop at nothing to make sure Biden is once again installed as your President. It is up to each and every one of us to expose the Left and their desperate acts of censorship and election interference, and to ensure a free and fair election. Stay vigilant. Stay safe.
