BLABBERMOUTH It seems that I spend a significant amount of time saying things that few others want to say, yet I only say what I believe to be true as the Holy Spirit of Truth reveals it to me. And I'm not referring to any special revelation, just things that come to mind through the years as a result of experience and observation. I like to think that God shows me truth because He knows that I'll do something with it rather than hide it under a bushel basket out of laziness or fear of man. Whether that's the case or not, I do not know, but I do know that I learn a lot by keeping my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open. Today I was treated to a video clip of an immature, blabbermouth "preacher" who stated that he hates gospel tracts. The reason he gave was that people use tracts to replace verbal "soul winning," but I seriously doubt that that's the real reason. No, the reason is likely the fact that tracts don't allow him to run his big mouth to a captive audience. Every time I see the guy in question, I see his mouth wide open with him ranting away about his latest gripe. Since being "still" is a requirement for knowing the LORD (Psa. 46:10), I'd say this kid knows very little about the LORD. The fact that his mind could think no deeper than that one shallow excuse speaks volumes. There are NUMEROUS good reasons to use tracts, and a great many people use them for those reasons, but none of that would appeal to this kid, because he lives only to RUN HIS MOUTH. Which is the trouble with MANY preachers. Truth be known, many preachers care far more about running their mouths to a captive audience than actually feeding the sheep the word of God. That's why many sermons are about five minutes scripture and thirty minutes blabbermouthing. If all preachers were required to WRITE out their sermons, they would be leaving the ministry in droves. Talk is cheap, so they do lots of it, but less and less of it these days amounts to real spiritual feeding. Too many blabbermouths, not enough shepherds (Ezk. 34). If you have a good preacher who labours in God's word and really feeds the sheep, then tell him that you appreciate him and pray for him. Otherwise, God just might move him to where he's appreciated and let a blabbermouth take his place.
