This song is another praise to the Lord. God is called a sun and a shield because He's both the light and the protection from the enemy. He brings light into our lives, and He comforts us. We don't have to walk in darkness because he is the sun but he's also our shield. He defends us from our enemies and from all would do us harm. He gives grace and favor and friendship. He loves us indefinitely. His glory is beyond anything we've ever imagined, His is not a conceited glory but He's honorable and He's eternal and He's glorious in all his ways. This passage tells us that God won't withhold any good thing from us. Anything that's good for us will never be withheld from us if we if we walk uprightly. If we worship God with all our heart and all our soul and all our mind and we do the right things, God wants to reward us. He wants us to give us good things. In this song, David is probably thinking a lot about some of the things that he's done in his life and he rejoices in the fact that the Lord has protected him and shielded him and blessed him anyway. We can have the same attitude as David. No matter what we've done, no matter what our transgressions have been, God is still our sun and our shield. He is still our right defender and He still longs to give us good things because he loves us.
