JUST LOOKING FOR FOLLOWERS?
I heard a preacher condemn social media ministries by saying that such people are just looking for followers and attention. That's an interesting observation, especially when we could easily accuse the man of projection by turning the tables and saying that people like him are just looking for offerings, attendance and cheap amens. That's right, they don't care about the word of God or helping people with the word of God. They're just trying to run up the numbers in attendance, offerings and amens.
There, you see how easy it is to make stupid claims? The simple and honest fact is that there are bad guys EVERYWHERE, including on the Internet and in the pulpits, and BOTH mediums can be used wisely or abused foolishly. Anyone who can't see that has no business using either.
I cannot remember the last time I saw how many social media followers I have, and I certainly have no numbered goals that I'm trying to reach. The reality is that social media is where millions of people are, so it's a great field for reaching lots of people with Bible truth. Many Internet preachers reach far more people than the ignorant preacher who made the foolish claim, and he might be a bit jealous about it. Whatever the case, it'll take a lot more than an ignorant preacher to intimidate me. If I'm using social media unwisely, then I pray for God to give me the wisdom that I need. If I'm using it wisely, then may God bless my labors and give me the strength to stay focused and not be discouraged or detoured by jealous peers.
May God bless anyone and everyone who has the burden and the wisdom to take the good word of God to where people are, because that's the very essence of the Great Commission, and that's really all that matters.
