Bezalel was a very skilled man. He was able to make the most artistic designs with a variety of materials. He had the ability to cut and set stones, work with wood, and engage in different forms of crafts. He had enough talent to make Michelangelo and Leonard da Vinci look like they were doing kindergarten-level stuff. Take note that these skills that Bezalel had were not meaningless and neither were they for nothing. God enabled Bezalel to use his skills and talents to craft and create different tools and structures for God – the various altars for offerings, the tools required for the different sacrifices, and even the Ark of the Covenant.Bezalel wasn’t just a man with skills. Exodus 31:1-5 shows us that God filled Him with the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of God. It is through the Holy Spirit that Bezalel was able to exhibit such excellence with his skills. He stood out among his people as a result of what God had done through him, and he ended up playing a key role for fulfilling God’s will at the time.Such things have not changed in the days we live in. As Christians, we all have a part to play in the body of Christ. We might not have to build different tools and altars, but there are people out there who need all kinds of help. There are church buildings that need to be built and decorated. There are hungry souls that need to be fed. There are missions that need to be carried out and missions to be funded. There are secular scenes that need to be infiltrated with the word of God in order for more people to receive salvation. There are countless areas in the world that need our presence. We are all filled with the Holy Spirit and He will and already has enabled us to do what God has called us to do. We all have a particular role to play in bringing more people into the light of salvation. The skills and talents that we possess are not for nothing. God has placed them in our lives for a reason. The same way Bezalel’s abilities played a key role in building the things of God, is the same way our gifts, talents and skills will play a part in the will of God for our lives.
