Our Searching, Saving, and Securing Great Shepherd "He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." (Isaiah 40:11)What a variety we find in our Great Shepherd's flock. Some are young in their faith, and some have known Him for many years. Some are strong and well fed while others are in need of nourishment. Yet, He is ever faithful to the needs of each of His lambs. Now, if you've ever been around lambs, you're aware that they are prone to lag behind, wander about, and grow weary. Lambs often are found bound in places they shouldn't be. When they find themselves in a predicament, they'll begin to cry out for help. But with the danger that often awaits those lambs at every turn, there we find the Shepherd/Saviour with His out-stretched arm of power, provision, and protection.Yes, the Lord Jesus is our Great Shepherd daily watching over each of us. Not only does His work involve caring for His own lambs, but He is ever searching. He searches morning and evening bidding lost souls here and there along the highways and byways of life that He may save them and bring them into His flock. He sees those souls that are famished, He sees the faint-hearted, He sees the forsaken, and the forgotten, and bids them into His fold. And what a quick eye He possesses to note the hurts and hungers of each that trusts Him. O, how gently He gathers them, grooms them, and guides them to an abundant life.Have not each of us strayed a time or two over the years? Have we not hurt His heart with our carelessness? Have we not even been found to walk contrary to His calling? But how comforting it is to know that He is forever faithful in His love to each of His own.Friends, never let us think of ourselves to be of little importance in His sight when our Saviour's own soul sings again and again to our aching hearts those soothing words, "He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
