SPIRITUAL BIBLE READING Too many people neglect to read the Bible spiritually, and this is often due to the abuse of daily reading plans and quotas. While there is nothing wrong with reading a planned amount of scripture daily, it can quickly become a dry and dead routine instead of a spiritual meal. Training ourselves to seek out and feed on spiritual food can make all the difference and can keep our Bible reading lively, rich and rewarding. For instance, when reading Leviticus 11, you can get so distracted with trying to keep your mind straight on clean and unclean animals that you miss the spiritual point of verses 3-7, that YOU are unclean when you talk the talk without walking the walk or vice versa. For instance, you don't have to be a farmer to see the problem with sowing your field with "mingled seed" (Lev. 19:19). In fact, this unscriptural practice has led to the apostasy of a great many preachers and churches. For instance, you might not specialize in ancient weights and measures when reading Deuteronomy 25:13, but what King James Bible-believer doesn't see the problem with having "divers weights" as his authority? God is a Spirit, and the Bible is primarily a spiritual Book that addresses spiritual issues. Bible reading never has to be dry and dead. We all bear the responsibility to keep it lively and meaningful, and there's no better way of doing this than with spiritual reading. Sure, we should glean every ounce of doctrine, prophecy and history that we can, as well as any other relevant information, but not at the expense of feeding the spiritual man with God's spiritual truth. Just as Jesus had "meat to eat that ye know not of" (John 4:32), there is meat to eat that we know not of all through the scriptures. Whatever portion of scripture you might be reading, there is always spiritual meat present. Find it and feed on it, and your Bible reading will never be the same.
