There are few verses more beautiful and more important that the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-12. Said by Jesus during his Sermon on the Mount, so much can be gleaned from these teachings and yet they are cryptic enough that they leave a lot to interpretation. In these 3 verses, we know that Jesus favors the merciful, pure in heart, and peacemakers. Do you think that you reflect these virtues? Do you think that you reflect them as much as you possibly can? Upon reading these verses, I feel that I lack a lot of the qualities that Jesus discusses. Having these verses in my mind, however, can lead to me improving upon these shortcomings.Another point that should be considered is WHY believers should try their best to follow the Beatitudes teachings. Look at the second half of each verse: they shall obtain mercy, they shall see God, and they shall be called the children of God. If we act in a way that is favorable in the sight of the Lord, we stand to gain everything. Be more merciful, and He will be merciful. Be pure in heart, and God will hold us in His. Be a creator of peace, and we shall be God’s children. Following these principles will also lead all of us to help the people that need it the most. The world is so divided but this is not what Jesus would have wanted at all. He wanted us to seek peace and mercy. The world is filled with people that are not Christians: how would Jesus want us to deal with them? Look at the Beatitudes if you want your answer. He would not want to create strife, division, lack mercy, or have evil intentions for others in our hearts.Seek good, as Jesus did. Do good, as Jesus did. Be merciful, as Jesus was. Fill your heart with good, as Jesus did. Lastly, spread peace and love, as Christ did. Leave everything else to God.
