The Bible Study –
Our reading for Thursday, Feb. 8 is John 2:13-25.
The sinless Lamb of God goes to Jerusalem at the time of Passover.
The festival remembers God’s deliverance of His people from physical bondage in Egypt.
Christ, through His sacrifice for our sins on the cross, delivers Christian believers from the spiritual slavery of sin.
In our Gospel passage, Jesus cleanses the temple of those who’ve turned it into a marketplace.
His authority is challenged. He’s asked, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?”
Our Lord says, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
The Apostle John explains, “He was speaking about the temple of His body. When therefore He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.”
Today Christ speaks to us through His Word in the Bible.
It tells us of His sacrificial death on the cross for our transgressions, His resurrection, and ascension to God the Father in Heaven.
To all who receive His free gift of salvation through faith, He offers forgiveness and eternal life.
