The Bible Study,
Disobedience in the Last Days –
Our reading for Wednesday, January 31 is 2nd Timothy 3:1-17.
The Bible tells us that in these last days people will turn away from God, and lawless, evil behaviour will increase.
The Apostle Paul warns:
"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God . . . ." (vss. 1-4)
Christians will face opposition, "Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived."
Paul counsels Timothy, and us, to stay true to the faith, and remain in God's saving Word, for, "All Scripture is breathed out by God . . . . " (v.16)
Today, despite trials and persecution, we have the blessed assurance of God's eternal, inerrant Word which is able to make us "wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."
Amen.
